Should I…..or Shouldn’t I???

I have been tossing around ideas on how to better organize some of my harder-to-organize scrappy supplies.  Punches are one thing I haven't figured out what to do with.  The other one is acrylic stamps.

Awhile back, I put some in cd cases.  Then I decided I really didn't like that idea so I stopped about halfway through the process.  Now I have even more and I am trying to come up with a new solution.

I have an idea…but it's a little scary… surprise...so I'm hesitating before diving in…

Have you ever seen the Tim Holtz cling stamps from Stampers Anonymous?  They sell them on a board-type thing that has the stamps mounted on one side and the image stamped on the other.  Like this:  http://www.stampersanonymous.com/cat-index.html

So I am considering doing something similiar with my acrylic stamps using glossy photo paper, page protectors, and d-ring binders.  I can stamp the image on the matt side of the paper, stick the stamps on the  glossy side, slide them into page protectors and file them in a binder.  This way, I can just flip through the pages when I'm looking for a stamp.

Okay…here's the scary part.  I was thinking of grouping my stamps - regardless of manufacturer.  For example, I would have a page of heart stamps - and on that page might be stamps from Studio G, Autumn Leaves and Fiskars.  I would throw away (or re-use, re-cycle) all of the original packaging.  I could label each and every stamp so I would know where it came from, though that would greatly add to the process.

I guess I could just make an index of sorts to file in a binder and leave the actual stamps in their packages, but that just adds to my "stuff" rather than eliminating some of it and making room - which is really my overall goal.

Any tips or advice you could share would be greatly appreciated!

  • I am compulsive about keeping a set together lol. I keep a looseleaf binder with different categories with the like images together, say Christmas/Winter, Backgrounds, Botanical/Dogs, Eiffel Tower Stamps (yes, I have a collection lol), Journal Tags, etc. Next to the stamped image, I write down what stamp set the image comes from and where it is stored.

My stamp storage varies with the stamps. I keep all my unmounted Club Scrap stamps in loose leaf binders also. I use the Club Scrap Mount It Glue and store them on sheet protectors (with a stamped image of all the stamps on cardstock in the sheet protector. I keep smaller clear acrylic stamps in these clear pockets which I keep together with large binder rings. I keep the Papertrey Ink stamps in their CD cases. I have a large collection of wood stamps I haven't worked up the courage to unmount them, and those I keep in clear plastic bins.

Here's a blog post about the Mount It glue box I use if that's of any help. http://ohhhsnapper.blogspot.com/2010/02/unmounted-stamps-solution.html.

  • For punches I use a fabric shoe holder that hangs for the punches I use a lot and small plastic bins sorted by theme (winter, animals, flowers, etc).

  • I have my stamps divided by type not by brand. I love having them this way! Have you looked at Daphne's storage for stamps? That's what I am going towards. I still need to order a couple more and unmount what I have mounted. On the sides of the "shoe boxes" I label what is on each tray. I LOVE IT!
    This is Daphne's storage: http://www.scrapcessories.com/index.cfm?page=Stamp

I don't have many punches, so I can't help you with that storage!

  • Daphne's Scrapcessories stamp storage system rocks!

  • Wow! I love Daphne's Stamp Caddy!! What a great idea!

My scrap room is actually a loft at the top of the stairs...and it doesn't have a door :( so I don't know where I would hang the shoe holder, though that IS a great idea.
